The Golf Experience

Karen Country Club offers a rich and storied golfing experience that blends tradition, natural beauty, and world-class course design. From its humble beginnings in the 1930s to its current status as one of Kenya’s premier golf destinations, Karen continues to captivate golf enthusiasts from around the world.

A Legacy of Golf and Nature

The development of the Karen golf course began in 1933, with the first nine holes completed by 1938 and the second nine by 1943. In its early years, the course shared its lush landscape with wild animals including lions, buffalo, zebras, and baboons. Well into the 1960s, lions were still a common sight along the fairways.

While modern development has changed the wildlife scene, the course remains home to resident wild pigs near the wetlands by the 18th hole and occasional small herbivores that roam freely.

Over the years, subtle enhancements have been made to preserve and improve the golfing experience, including the extension of the course’s length, the addition of strategic bunkers, redesigned greens, and scenic water features.

A Globally Recognized Golf Destination

Karen Country Club holds the honor of being the only Kenyan golf course featured in Robert Sidorsky’s acclaimed book, “Golf Courses of the World – 365 Days.”
In this global collection of iconic courses, Karen shares the stage with legends such as:

  • Augusta National (USA)

  • TPC Sawgrass (USA)

  • Fancourt Links (South Africa)

  • Mission Hills (China)

  • Carnoustie Golf Links (Scotland)

  • Royal Lytham & St. Annes (England)

This recognition underscores Karen’s unique charm, historic value, and striking setting, securing its place on the world stage of golf.
